Project Blackfin is a Sacred Wagon program focused on exploring the future of unmanned aerial systems, remote sensing, and aerial intelligence. The program is being developed to investigate the use of UAS in daily life and most importantly how unmanned systems can support intelligence, situational awareness, reconnaissance, mapping, asset protection, emergency response, and other lawful operational requirements. Project Blackfin brings together research, systems development, technology integration, and operational concepts to explore what the next generation of unmanned capabilities can provide.

Sacred Wagon Group is currently developing the program’s technical, operational, and organizational framework. Specific capabilities and services will be introduced as the program progresses through research, testing, evaluation, and development. Blackfin is being built around a simple principle:

Integration of aircraft, sensors, communications, software, data systems, and supporting infrastructure.
Aviation & Flight Operations
UAS flight operations, aviation safety, airspace considerations, flight planning, and operational procedures.
Emergency & Public-Safety Applications
Situational awareness, disaster assessment, search-and-rescue support, infrastructure assessment, emergency response, and other lawful applications.
Asset Protection & Situational Awareness
Monitoring, assessment, mapping, and other non-invasive applications designed to improve awareness and protect people, property, and critical assets.

Academic credentials are valuable, but demonstrated capability, technical curiosity, disciplined research, and a willingness to build are equally important. Project Blackfin is being developed as a multidisciplinary effort. Aerospace engineering may provide the foundation for aircraft and platform development, while information systems, computer science, engineering, geospatial sciences, aviation, data science, and other disciplines contribute to the broader ecosystem required to make unmanned systems useful.
The objective is to bring together individuals from different technical disciplines to explore what the next generation of unmanned aerial capability can become — from aircraft and sensors to information systems, data, communications, mapping, and decision support.
All Blackfin activities are intended to remain within applicable laws, regulations, safety requirements, and responsible-use principles.
